Observation start time: 08:45:00 Observation end time: 16:00:00 Total observation time: 7.25 hours
Official Counter: Andy Dickson
Observers: Allie MacNeil, Mike Ceci, Tom Wasilewski
Visitors: Allie McNeil made a welcome appearance when the TV counts were ballooning.
Weather: Overcast and mild with strong SW winds moving to W by late in the watch. Slowly clearing skies in the afternoon allowed some warming and thermal lift.
Raptor Observations: Over 2,400 TVs, our season high. The largest group of 350 came through between 11am and 12pm. Birds came through fast, many times at very low relative altitudes. Others came through high and fast. The flight was under way when I arrived at 8:45 at site #1 with birds coming down Rt from the west. In the next two hours they would pass along a 1/2 mile-wide path between the lakeshore and the NYS Thruway. Generally, as winds shifted to the west throughout the day, the flight moved inland finishing at site #3 and we moved several times between all count locations. We had a nice uptick in raptor counts today, as well.
Non-raptor Observations:
Predictions: Cloudy with NE winds... not ideal conditions for migration in our neighborhood. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Andy Dickson (<adickson3...>) Ripley Hawk Watch information may be found at: www.facebook.com/groups/3193820734258889/
