Subject: [CT Birds] Coastal Center
4/2 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center. 9:45am-1PM. low
tide-rising, sunny, 42F.
Marsh was very busy with waterfowl, etc. Female osprey was on the nest
most of the morning, male on his perch, and on the nest, then flying
around.
Our Purple martin gourds are set up, now waiting for their arrival. Thank
you to Frank, Stefan, Gilles and Tom.
Viewed from inside with bins & scope:
14 Gadwall, 6 Green winged teal, about 10 American black ducks, 4 American
Wigeon, 10 Bufflehead, about 150 or more Brant spread out in the marsh and
on Long Island sound, 2 Canada Geese, 1 Great Egret, 2 Great blue herons,
2 Yellowlegs, 6 Red breasted mergansers. As the tide came in- the
waterfowl spread out. I took a short walk with one of our visitors on the
Long Island sound side and we saw 5 Piping plovers, 2 American
Oystercatchers and 4 Horned larks along with many Ring billed & Herring
gulls.
On the grounds & feeders- 6 Song sparrows very active by the water
fountain, 1 Yellow rumped warbler at the water fountain, 4 Mourning doves,
2 Northern Cardinals, numerous Grackles, a Blue Jay, House sparrows, 2 Red
winged Blackbirds, 2 Chickadees, 1 WB nuthatch, 1 Titmouse, 1 Golden
Crowned kinglet working the pine trees, 6 House finches and Dark eyed
juncos.
