Weather:
Overall: dark, cold, and wet. Temperatures rose from 35°F to 42, winds
stayed mainly from the east @ 12-13 mph, and a light rain began in the
third hour. At 1:15 (clock time) a long, rolling, mighty blast of thunder
announced the coming rain. I hung around another 30 minutes to see if it
would push anything through, but there was nothing.
Raptor Observations:
A few Turkey Vultures trickled through (41 in all), 2 Red-shoulders, 2
Red-tails, 2 Osprey, 1 harrier that gave low and great looks, and 2
Merlins, 1 was a local hunting behind the ball diamonds. A local adult
Bald Eagle headed westward and 2 local Red-tails hunted the area as well.
Non-raptor Observations:
The pond continues to hold a pair of Lesser Scaup and a couple of Hooded
Mergansers. A Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and Eastern Towhee were
first-of-year birds for the watch.
Predictions:
Tomorrow: rain showers in the morning with strong SW winds. Temps
should reach the 60's.
Friday: a little cooler with temps making it up to the 50's, low N
winds - but no rain!
