Sunday, several people chased after the Common Crane that has been seen in the Wolsey/Virgil area (Beadle County). A few lucky people saw it so it still is around, but most of us did not (I may have heard it). Just one Whooping Crane was reported. Muddy roads added to the challenge. Still, a pleasant day to be out birding. There are about 10,000-15,000 Sandhills around, just a fraction of the numbers that will be here soon. Perhaps more of the Common Cranes reported in Nebraska will come here with the 50,000 Sandhills due to arrive.
