Hello NE birders,
I wanted to check in and let you all know I am still following NEbirds in this format. I just don't get around to e-bird.
I really enjoyed hearing about the Common Crane(s).
Here is what I've been seeing in and surrounding my BIG yard;
A small group of about 30 Grackles arrived just before the blizzard of March 19th and holed up here until it was over. Some of this group decided to stay. Several larger groups of blackbirds have been passing through over the past week. In These groups are Grackles, Red Winged Blackbirds and I thought I heard some Yellow headed blackbirds in the mix. They are LOUD.
We also have had waves of Robins coming through. There are now resident Robins staying, the rest are moving on.
I heard the first Mourning Dove of the season on the 26th of March.
There has been a White Wing Dove visiting this past week. We had a WW Dove couple stay here most of the winter.
There was a Brown Creeper staying in the yard all last week. Cute little bird.
We have a Says Phoebe who seems to have settled in. We had a S Phoebe couple here all last summer.
Also want to mention the other residents;
White Crowned Sparrows
Juncos, all races
Red Shafted Flickers
Downy Woodpecker
Male and Female Cardinals
Goldfinches
House Finches
Blue Jays
Eurasian Collard Doves
House Sparrows
Meadow Lark
Great Horned Owls (They seem to be hunting over the entire town.)
I may have missed some birds, but this is what I've been seeing most.
