Weather: Upon arrival at Site 1A, the temperature was 57(f) with SE winds gusting to 6.9 mph. Rain was steady, along with fog inland towards the ridge. Nonetheless, having learned from the past that weather conditions can change thus allowing a flight to develop, I decided to continue with the watch. Conditions worsened from 10:00-10:30AM. Upon checking weather radar, it was apparent that the storm system extended from Ashtabula OH well past Buffalo NY, with our Hawk Watch sites in the center of the storm. Wind gusts increased and the rain and fog failed to subside. At 10:30, the decision was made to shut down the Watch
Raptor Observations: Neither local or migrating raptors were flying today due to the weather. I observed the field on the south side of Rt 5 having many Gulls and other birds essentially "grounded." There were no sitings of non-raptors flying through the watch. Hopefully, this will pass by tomorrow.
Non-raptor Observations: Winds picked up consideraby during the 90 minutes at Site 1A with a direction of SE. Today it was simply a matter of conditions not conducive for a flight.
Predictions: For 03/31/2025, much of the same is in the forecast. Cloudy. Periods of rain early. Morning high of 57F with temps falling to near 40. Winds WSW at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 60%. Higher wind gusts possible. Conditions look unfavorabe. However, plans are to check our Sites tomorrow morning to see if relief is in store. Hopefully, there will be some assemblance of a flight. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Michael Ceci (<michael.ceci541...>) Ripley Hawk Watch information may be found at: www.facebook.com/groups/3193820734258889/
