As a matter of interest (at least to me) I located the Pileated working an old dead log on the floor of the woods by my house. Interestingly, almost exactly one year ago there was an Pileated in the exact same location on the exact same log. However, I don’t recall hearing or seeing it anytime between last year and this year. So it’s curious to me that I know they are around, but at least here seem to be very infrequent and irregular visitors.
