Somehow, it looks like I didn’t tap “send“ for this message. I hope it’s OK to post it now.

Spent a quiet few hours at Santa Margarita Lake late yesterday afternoon. The lake was not very birdy, but there were plenty of birds on land:

Western bluebird

Oregon Junco

Redwing blackbird

White-Crowned sparrow

Golden-crowned sparrow

Song sparrow

Ruddy duck

Western/Clark’s grebe

Oak titmouse

Canada goose

Cormorant

California quail

Great-tailed grackle

European starling

California Towhee

Eurasian collared dove

Yellow-rumped warbler

I heard the Grebes doing their power paddle, but they had settled back onto the water by the time I put my binoculars on them.

I was a little surprised to see the Great-tailed grackle. I know they have been increasing their range, but I don’t recall seeing them away from built up areas. It certainly was very noisy, disturbing the quiet of a nearly empty park.
