Subject: [Ohio-birds] Dutch Fork Wetlands Fri AM
I had a productive late morning at Dutch Fork today. I saw my FOY Osprey flying over (later I saw a pair copulating on a fine nest atop a cell phone tower near the wetlands), Blue-winged Teal (first time I've seen them there, 7), Swamp & Chipping Sparrow. Other sparrows were White-crowned, White-throated, Song, Field plus E Towhee.
By happenstance, I found myself barely 15 ft away from a pair of Sandhill Cranes standing in one of the ponds. I was behind some bushes so I didn't notice them at first, then I could only see one. Absolutely amazing to hear one let out its call so close--no wonder the sound carries so far--v loud! Altho I tried to stay quite still, the pair flew off shortly after. Think it's the first time I've seen those at this spot as well.
More female RW Blackbirds around so the males were really showing off. Only Tree Swallows.
