For the second year in a row, we have a robin who has decided to make a big chunk of the yard HIS territory. Last year, he kept flying at the windows (at his reflection, presumably) until we soaped up the outside with a lot of lines. This year, he is obsessed with an old hopper-type feeder that got blown down recently. The sides are a yellowish plastic that doesn’t seem to reflect anything, but that bird is convinced there’s another robin inside. He walks around poking at it with his bill. He bends down and tries to get in the side. He fiercely stands guard outside, glaring at the feeder. I’m going to bring it in any minute now (the feeder, not the robin), but I have been fascinated by this bird’s single-mindedness.
