Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City -
On Thursday, March 27, what were likely the first of season Palm Warblers, just a few found on the day, for Central Park with at least 2 in the Ramble area, another on the s. edge of Sheep Meadow. A few Pine Warblers also were found in disparate locations in the park, while at least a couple of lingering Northern Rough-winged Swallows were ongoing at - over the Meer in the parks n-e quadrant. Tree Swallows also have occurred over Central, and as is typical of that species earlier arrivals there, most or all continue on to breeding locations. Some other birds being found recently in Central Park include both species of kinglets, although any Ruby-crowned are still of overwintered individuals, not necessarily for some Golden-crowned Kinglets. Rusty Blackbirds, and the more regular blackbird species have been continuing as well as passing thru at Central. The few Chipping Sparrows showing recently in the park, as well as some Field Sparrows over more than the past week, are likely new arrivals as spring is springing. One or more each of those sparrows were visiting the Ramble feeders at times to Thursday. Many many more species, including E. Phoebes and many others are ongoing, with some fresh arrivals of some of these migratory birds.
Good birding to all,
Tom Fiore
