Greater Pewee (Contopus pertinax) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Mar 26, 2025 11:14 by Toby Fowler
- Ennisbrook Open Space, Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.6226395&<ll...>,-119.6226395 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S221004821 - Comments: "Continuing. I thought I heard a few pips by its continuing location along the open area of the creek. After being distracted by some dogs coming through, I lost it. We left without any luck but after hearing a recording I really felt I had heard it so made one final push to do the northern loop, which we hadn't done. At the open area at the very northern tip, I heard some pip pips, and after a bit of searching, found it above me! Contopus flycatcher, much like our Western Wood-Pewee but much bigger, more pointed crest, and bigger bill. Preening and stretching on a perch. Silent while I viewed it.
