Weather:
Temperatures hovered around the freezing mark with winds mostly from the
West that fluctuated between 12 and 22 mph. Snow flurries ranged from light
to heavy during all but the last hour.
Raptor Observations:
295 Turkey Vultures pushed through - the 3rd hour brought the most when the
winds gained a southerly component. Only one other migrating raptor came
by today, a Red-tailed Hawk in the last hour. Local raptors included both
an immature and adult Red-tail, Cooper's Hawk, and a pair of adult Bald
Eagles heading towards the lake. A few local Turkey Vultures kept me on my
toes as to whether to count them or not...
Non-raptor Observations:
The pond had visits from a pair of Hooded Mergansers, Common Mergansers, 3
Mallards, a Lesser Scaup and a Wood Duck. DON DIXON's most excellent find
of the over-wintering Red-headed Woodpecker was also around again.
Predictions:
Tomorrow could be decent with temperatures reaching into the 40's;
winds are forecast to come from the SW at 10-20 mph; mostly sunny with just
a slight chance of rain in the afternoon.
Friday has a greater chance of rain, temps around 50°F, calmer
winds from the SE at 5-10 mph.
