Some of my favorite birding places are under threat from wildfires, several of which were also devastated last fall by Hurricane Helene. The town of Saluda declared an emergency this morning.
The Green River Game Lands are especially hard-hit in multiple areas - now the Walcott Tract has a fire that crossed Cove Creek in the area of Big Bradley Falls.
And with the awful Table Rock Complex fire, there are mandatory evacuations and road closures in upstate SC - including Caesar's Head State Park and Jones Gap State Park.
I fear that many of these areas will not recover in my lifetime.
