Observation start time: 09:30:00 Observation end time: 17:00:00 Total observation time: 7.5 hours
Official Counter: Andy Dickson
Observers: Mike Ceci
Visitors: Mike Ceci contributed for several hours midway through the count.
Weather: Cold westerlies throughout the day. Some blue skies were evident over the lake on arrival and the clearing worked its way ashore by midday but then receded north later in the day.
Raptor Observations: With the exception of a few raptors, it was all TVs today. Mike and I witnessed a large distant group of 80 TVs finishing their day's flight and circling their overnight roost on the lakeshore just to the north of our count location #1b. A drive to Ripley Beach Rd revealed many of the birds perched among the lakeside trees.
Birds followed divergent paths and very deliberate attention had to be paid in all directions at all times. For the most part, the birds came east between I90 and NY5.
Non-raptor Observations:
Predictions: Cloudy, high of 34F and strong westerlies. It might be a repeat of today's flight. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Andy Dickson (<adickson3...>) Ripley Hawk Watch information may be found at: www.facebook.com/groups/3193820734258889/
