Subject: [centralvalleybirds] FOS Rufous Hummers
I'm in Nevada County (1200 feet elev) and had my FOS Rufous male on 3/3.
He only stayed overnight, seemed to be riding on storm winds. Second
sighting of Rufous male was on 3/12 and he didn't stay and also seemed to
be riding on a storm. Both had solid rufous backs -- dazzling color. No
other Rufous hummers to date here. A friend in Foresthill (Placer Co, elev
2800) sent me a photo taken of her first Rufous male on Feb. 27 - that's
earlier than all my records going back 10 yrs. Again, it was during one of
those stormy weeks.
