Subject: [Ohio-birds] Sun at Darby Bend Lks, Mon at Denison & Morris Woods
I had an errand to run Sun on the W side of Columbus so even tho the weather wasn't great, I made a brief stop at Darby Bend Lks hoping for my FOY Osprey. No Osprey but did see my FOY Purple Martin feeding low over the water in the company of a handful of Tree Swallows. One Pied-billed Grebe was there but no ducks.
Things are still quiet at Denison & Morris Woods. I had good looks at a Golden-crowned Kinglet at Denison & Field Sparrows & towhees were singing but not much else. I continue to be dismayed at the continued clearing going on at the Reserve. They've now cleared out a lot of the thick undergrowth by Swallow Field where I've had good-sized mixed flocks in migration both spring & fall. All the undergrowth has been taken out along the stream W of Spring Peeper Pond where I've had Mourning, CT, Orange-crowned & Golden-winged Warblers as well as Winter Wrens. That's also the spot where I had brilliant views of a Henslow's Sparrow. I hope the Reserve will still be attractive to migrants but I am v worried that it may not be anymore.
Morris Woods had more species but nothing unusual. Saw one Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, one YR Warbler (winter plumage) & heard one E Phoebe. There were a few Slate-colored Juncos & 4 Wood Ducks.
