Subject: [northbaybirds] 1) (Remaining/Persistent Presence Of) Greater White-fronted Goose; 2) Monitoring Other Recent North Bay/North Coast Sightings For This Species
Good day:

Yesterday, I noticed at the Marsh Drive flooded ephemeral "pond" the presence of eight *GREATER WHITE-FRONTED*
*GOOSE.*

This non-breeding season resident Anitidae should not be unexpected, currently, but other recent sightings in Marin and
Sonoma County are so-called distant memories, per eBird records and, even easier, the app called Birds Eye is a
convenient for more quickly making the aforementioned thought than "filtering" through dozens of March, 2025 eBird documentations for this species in the North Bay Birds (NBB) region.

For example, employing Birds Eye, the most recent Marin Greater White-front Goose sightings in Marin are from Las Gallinas (28 days ago); Corte Madera Creek (28 days ago); Piper Park (17 days ago); and a different Marsh Drive pond sighting from 15 days ago (my own).

Interestingly, the CLOSEST most recent sighting to mine yesterday for this species is a Fort Bragg observation YESTERDAY (i.e., the same day as mine).

Related, the 255 Greater White-fronted Goose I noticed last week was down to 40 from a Friday, March 21, 2025 sighting told to me on the trail by a good birder from New York City.

I'll head to Las Gallinas today to again check for presence/absence of this species that often "stages" with other individuals of its species while heading north to Far North latitude breeding grounds — the closest of which is a small area of the mid-N.W. territories....before a more contiguous, large band occurs at the same latitude # from N.W. Hudson Bay west into Alaska where a major reach of breeding area occurs.

As for lyrical thoughts on this species, it's Heaven On Earth and an immediate enchantment feeling to hear the bugling chorus of a large Greater White-fronted group on the move........and, curiously (at Las Gallinas in recent weeks), I've watch major phalanxes rise, circling with temporary cacophonous flight before settling again in the same area.

Thanks for reading and weeding through all the above details.

Regards, Daniel Edelstein
