I’ve seen cats spring and pull the tail off a small bird, so am thinking a fox, coyote, or bobcat, likely tried to have the pheasant for lunch.

I've always wondered whether cats/bobcats or other predators make tail-less birds. If so, we can believe they have escaped an attack.

There is a male pheasant who has been around for years and as in the past he has made himself visible, displaying and calling hens just in the last week or two. Yesterday he appeared and is missing his entire tail? Any theories as to what could have happened and whether or not he will survive this? I would appreciate any thoughts.
