Subject: [southbaybirds] Joseph Grant this morning
I taught a bird song workshop this morning up at Joseph Grant County
Park. There was a class room aspect to our morning, but we kept our ears
open to all we could hear. As Eve just reported, The male *VERMILLION
FLYCATCHER* although silent was clearly in view where previously
reported inside the park along Grant Road. We did not see it near the
wishing well. For us it was near the round-about and also flew south to
the open field past the restrooms. Sitting near a male *WESTERN
BLUEBIRD*, they were a beautiful sight.

A high flying and vocal *GREAT-BLUE HERON* caught my attention. He was
trying to convince an adult *GOLDEN EAGLE* to fly elsewhere. During our
morning we had several *RED-TAILED HAWKS* circling above including one
dark morph. A pair of *COOPER'S HAWKS* were flying and circling together
above the house. A vocal pair of
*RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS* were quite apparent along the western ridge line.
And a pair of *KILLDEER *were in the road near the Vermillion.

Other than both towhees we found no sparrows and only one or two yellow
rumps. We did see a healthy looking coyote.

Other than swallows there were no apparent arrivals just yet of the
species we'll expect into the Spring.
