I was surprised again this year to see a distinctive leucistic robin make its reappearance for the third year here. It has very irregular white patches on its wings, back, tail and undersides, and is unmistakable. I have wondered whether it is a male or a female, and whether it mated either of those 2 prior years. Yesterday, I saw it madly chasing another robin which leads me to believe may be a male establishing his territory, but I could be wrong.
Does anyone know of any pattern in sex-linked occurrence of leucism? Anyone know how leucism affects the likelihood of finding a mate and reproducing?
