- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S219861300
- Comments: "Flew directly overhead less than 20 meters above us as we traveled southwest through a construction zone approximately 5.2 miles from the junction with California Highway 1 - in the vicinity of 35.54614, 120.95744. Unmistakable - much larger than nearby Turkey Vultures, with very long wings and long, finger like primary feathers. Black overall, with a relatively short broad tail, and distinctive white wing patches towards the leading edge of the underwings. The head appeared grayish, but the true color may have been obscured by shadows. The bird was heading in a generally northeast direction. Unfortunately, due to traffic conditions and construction, we were unable to stop or give chase ."
