Weather: When we arrived at 9:30 the temperature was 53F and dropped to 42F by 2:00. The winds started at 17mph SSW with gusts up to 37mph and shifted to WSW ending at 12mph with gusts up to 26mph. There were scattered showers and heavier rain at times with some breaks where sun was visible through clouds.
Raptor Observations: Flight started off slow in the 9:00 and 10:00 hours but had a sudden rush of TVs in the 11:00 hour with almost 200 birds coming over at once in a kettle ahead of a weather system. Overall flight was disorganized due to frequent rain showers, but most birds passed through I-90 or North due to S winds with the large push of TVs coming right overhead site 1. Low numbers of non-TVs with RT, CH, and BE being the only raptors.
Non-raptor Observations: Three Tree Swallows came through close to the lake. One Great Blue Heron, some Northern Flickers, and large flocks of Ring-billed Gulls with some Herring Gulls mixed in as well.
Predictions: Low 30s temp and westerly winds could produce some flight. Sunny conditions should prevail throughout the count. No precipitation in the forecast for tomorrow. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Devin Banning (<devincban...>) Ripley Hawk Watch information may be found at: www.facebook.com/groups/3193820734258889/
