Swainson's Hawk (Buteo swainsoni) (1)
- Reported Mar 15, 2025 13:19 by Cole Ivie
- Carrizo Plain NM--Sprague Hill Rd., San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.9476&<ll...>,-119.9476 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S219491832 - Comments: "FOY, Going north! ID-ed by its very long and pointy wings and thinner build than red-tails. Some-what harrier-like flight-style (initially misidentified as a harrier before it got closer). Very dark flight feathers and dark-grey under-tail with minimum banding. Seen soaring and gliding before bailing out after the local gang of ravens took off to chase it."
Black-throated Gray Warbler (Setophaga nigrescens) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Mar 18, 2025 08:34 by Kathleen Kent
- Oakview Village, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.660672&<ll...>,-120.660672 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S219397141 - Comments: "Bold black and white pattern on the head with a strong black auricular stripe from the beak to the back of the neck, with a white supercillium and white stripe under the black auricular stripe. I was not able to make out a yellow dot on the lores. The flanks were boldly striped with black streaks on a white background, with a white belly. I got very good looks at the bird as it foraged in an oak tree. I still can’t carry my DSLR camera after shoulder surgery, so missed an excellent opportunity to get ID photos."
