Weather:
Today, Northern Chautauqua County, Western NY, and many other localities
experienced an incredibly gorgeous day. Our day started off with
temperatures in the mid 60's, and by 4 PM, we were basking in the sunshine
with a termperature of 76 (f). We used Site # 1 (Route 5) for today's
count. South winds prevailed for the entirety of the watch.

Raptor Observations:
During the first 90 minutes of the watch, raptors were coming in fast and
furious and could be viewed with the naked eye. They were directly over
Site 1. As the day progressed, they reached higher altitude. By 3 PM, it
was challenging to find the birds using 10 power binoculars. TV's
dominated the sky with a final count over 1000. We had some magnificent
views of two Northern Harriers, with one flying just over ground level on
the south side of Rt 5. The second NH came through by the Lake's shore
with a Bald Eagle. It was a gorgeous site to see the adult Bald Eagle and
male Northern Harrier circling directly above us.

Non-raptor Observations:
Today, we had the pleasure of having Allie McNeal and Jackie Damore
assisting us with the watch. With the birds eventually coming in two lines
(south of Rt 5 and directly over Site 1) they greatly contributed to
today's count. We welcome Allie and Jackie as observers for the Ripley
Hawk Watch. Your efforts are greatlly appreciated! Our non-raptor
highlights of today include American Pipit, Horned Lark, 2 Sandhill Cranes

Predictions:
For Thursday, 03/20/2025, temperatures are forecasted to drop to the mid
50's to start the day, then a further dip into the 40's by the afternoon.
70% Precip. / 0.17 in. Rain showers early mixing with snow showers later
in the day. Morning high of 56F with temps falling to near 40. Winds SW at
15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 70%. Higher wind gusts possible. This is not
a promising day for a flight to develop. From past experiences with
conditions somewhat unfavorable, anything is possible.
