Many thanks to our new volunteer counters and a big shout out to all:
GREAT SPOTTING, EVERYONE!!!

Weather:
A beautiful, mostly cloudless day warmed up from a 40°F morning to a sunny
62°F afternoon. Moderate winds held a southerly component all day,
changing from S to SSW to SW to WSW. A sun dog was visible around the 1:00
(DST) hour.

Raptor Observations:
Not a lot of variety - TVs prevailed with a count of 583. 34 Red-tails,
15 Red-shoulders (all adults again), and 1 Northern Harrier were the
migrants with 3 local Red-tails making appearances. Oddly, no accipiters
were seen at all today. Birds were quite high for most of the day.

Non-raptor Observations:
A Sandhill Crane was a fun sighting, spotted by our youngest trainee,
Julia! A Field Sparrow was nice to see first thing in the morning. A few
Canadas, Ring-necked, Hooded Mergs, and Mallards were at the pond.
Blackbirds were notably scarce today.

Due to the changing flight line and for the benefit of the trainees,
observations were up front for the 1st 2 hours, 2 hrs at section H, 2 hrs
at the ballpark, then I spent the final 1.5 hrs back up front as the flight
line had moved more inland.

Predictions:
Wednesday: a partly cloudy day with a high of 73°F is predicted with 10-14
mph S-SSW winds.

Thursday: showers in the morning and cooler with temps in the 50's. After
the rain passes, the SSW winds in the afternoon could bring about a
flight.
