Folks, I've been seeing a lot of reflections on the Ross's Gull 50th anniversary on this maillist. No one, so far as I know, has mentioned the round table symposium that Bird Observer (called Bird Observer of Eastern Massachusetts at the time) published in their February 1975 issue. Bob Stymeist and Paula Butler interviewed Herman Weissberg and Phil parsons, Caroline Robinson transcribed the interview and my old bird-buddy Leif Robinson RIP edited it. If you subscribe to Bird Observer (which you certainly should!), you can access the issue and the round table yourself -- all issues from the inception of the magazine in 1973 are online.
I simply copied and reproduced below, in rough OCR, the contents of the symposium. I warn you, it is pretty rough OCR, but still you get a flavor of the material.
