I report this with the hopes that people will practice good birding behavior…
But this morning 3/16, the continuing Louisiana Waterthrush along Stevens Creek in Solana Beach is occasionally practicing singing. It’s not a full belt, but a sort of a whispered version, like it’s embarrassed for anyone to hear it. It has been way up by Panera Bread and came out into the open for an astounding several minutes. Silent and hidden at the moment.
I expect this bird will take off within a few days, so now’s the time to try if you haven’t seen it. But PLEASE don’t blast it with recordings, it will sing on its own. And best practice is to remain stationary, as it spooks easily when people shuffle. Likely the best place to hear/see it would be the Panera parking lot (32.9932035, -117.2600245) , but it may range south to the “north clearing” here: (32.9926599, -117.2605153)
