Subject: [sd-birds] Bear Butte Lake and WW Report
We visited Bear Butte and area lakes Saturday afternoon.  The recent
warm weather opened Bear Butte Lake, except for some shore ice, along
with most road side ponds.  Bear Butte had Mallards, Canada Geese,
Green-winged Teal, Killdeer, Ring-billed Gulls, and one mature Bald
Eagle. Coopers Dam had mallards and one Bufflehead.  We took gravel
roads back to Whitewood with sightings limited to 1 Crow and 1 Meadowlark.

We have a large number of winter resident birds at our feeders 1.5 miles
south of Whitewood, but the only new sighting since last report was a
Chipping Sparrow Saturday.  Whitewood Creek is still frozen over, but
with large open spots.
