Weather: A gorgeous day with temperatures reaching 60F. Mostly cloudy. The winds were out of the south at 15-25mph. At about 1:30 a short band of rain passed through.
Raptor Observations: The day of the Rough-legged Hawk! We saw 12 individuals, several of which passed right over the platform. Most were light morphs, but one very dark adult was particularly exciting. Otherwise, it was a great day, with just over 300 total birds. The vast majority were Turkey Vultures, but we also had decent numbers of Sharp-shinned, Cooper's, Red-tailed, and Red-shouldered Hawks.
Non-raptor Observations: Hundreds of robins, starlings, and blackbirds filled the skies all morning. Several large flocks of Lapland Longspurs were fun to see. A Eurasian Wigeon joined the masses of ducks on the bay. There was also a Horned Grebe and a Red-necked Grebe mixed in.
Predictions: Showers in the morning, becoming a steady rain in the afternoon. South winds at 20-30mph. High near 65F. With the amount of rain, I'm not expecting much to move. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Maili Waters (<mailirwaters...>) Braddock Bay information may be found at: http://www.bbrr.org/
