Subject: [birders] Contact sport
Birding is a contact sport, as in contact between you, your binoculars and the sidewalk. Two weeks ago, I was out searching for the local Coops when I tripped on uneven pavement and plummeted to the ground. My harnessed bins smashed into my chest, knocking the wind out of me. I severely bruised my ribs and cartilage, but no fractures. My coat and fleece helped cushion the blow to my chest. Otherwise the headline might have read , “Birder killed by own binoculars!”
