Saturday morning just after 9:00 a.m. I found a Dusky Flycatcher at Kimball Park in National City. It's working along the stream right next to the bridge where the Swamp Sparrow was present earlier this winter. It started out immediately below the bridge but then spent most of its time immediately above the bridge. As far, upstream only about 60 ft or so where there is a short, young, two-trunked willow tree. The bird is perching quite low and often dropping down to the ground to feed, mostly in the creek bed proper. David Trissel was with me and obtained a series of photos and one brief tape recording and will post those with his eBird list later today. This is only the second winter Dusky Flycatcher I've ever seen in the county, and I've only seen about three others in winter in Southern California. This is much too early for a spring migrant to have arrived, as the earliest birds are not until late April, and mostly they are in May. Don't know where it was earlier this winter when everybody was coming to see the Swamp Sparrow.....
