Weather:
A beautiful, warm, sunny day - temperatures rose from 38°F to 63.
Unfortunately, the winds were very light and held an easterly component for
the first couple of hours. Around noon, they became variable. Most of my
time was spent at the William D. Williams Park on Rogers Rd due to the
easterly winds.
Raptor Observations:
The first raptor, an adult Red-Shoulder didn't show up until the third hour
(a little after 11:00 EST). Five more adults were to follow along with 46
Turkey Vultures, a coop, and a female type Northern Harrier. 3
non-migrating Red-tails and the local coop were also seen.
Non-raptor Observations:
The pond was busy with Canada Geese, Mallards, Ring-necked Ducks, and
hooded and common mergs. The overwintering Red-headed Woodpecker was around
and 3 lovely Eastern Meadowlarks gave beautiful views and song.
Predictions:
It looks like Hamburg's first official day could be decent with warm
temperatures in the 60's and mostly Southerly winds with a little more
"kick" to them than today's.
