I have lots to catch up on from my Florida trip, but couldn’t resist this great
Weather! No butterflies though…. I read a report on the tremendous decline
In numbers. Sad. Just like the birds. I started at the east end of Cowan lake.
Such low water levels - exposed mud - but no snipe. This seems like the
Best spot in the county for that species. Maybe not! I'll keep trying here!
I finally got Coot for the county! I had to hit deeper water for them. Also picked
Up DC Corm, pileated, and RW Blackbird for the Clinton big year. Coot was the
Best here today. Up to 67 for the Clinton big year. Poor…..
I had 205 Ruddy Ducks in a roosting flock there. Nice! Many are almost in
Full breeding plumage also. I had another huge flock of waterfowl. But I
Never could track it down to scan well! Lots of places to “hide” there.
Oh well, next time.
Spring Valley in Warren county. Dead! Did pick up Tree Swallow and Wood
Duck though. East end of Cowan was slow. Spring Valley was slow. Not good
Timing for marsh birding??
Highlight was the observation tower area. In the middle of a wet prairie or such.
I finally tracked down Woodcock for Warren! Six. Peenting. I can’t wait to explore
This spot more! No owls calling….. but it was loud with Spring peepers. And people
We’re arriving for Salamanders! I thought about sticking around but wanted to get
Home.
Warren is up to 79. Still poor….
Good birding all.
