Lakes and ponds are starting to open up in Rensselaer County. It is somewhat amazing how quickly ducks appear to take advantage of the emerging waters.
A small swath of open water appeared yesterday along the eastern shore of Nassau Lake. it was packed this morning with 2 Mute Swan, 25 Canada Geese, 40 Common Mergs, 6 Hooded Mergs, 24 Ring necked Ducks and a bunch of mallard.
Similar clusters were observed on Bulson Rd pond in Poestenkill, the south end of the Tom (with Gadwall and Teal), and fisherman’s lane ( with Widgeon and Pintails).
