- Comments: "found one in nonbreeding plumage precisely where reef and the claytons observed 2 birds yesterday.. small alcid way offshore. needed to dial scope to 60X for good views of b/w plumage with near wrap around white collar and some white on sides; second bird was 300 yds more north, out beyond 50+ scoters and was closer to breeding plumage with dark brown/black head and body with mottling."

Two Marbled Murrelets together offshore. Smaller than nearby Surf Scoters. Black and white overall; short neck (almost "no neck"); dark crown extending over the eye; white face, chin, neck and breast; white extending from neck to back of head ("collar"); dark nape stripe leading to dark back; small dark bill held somewhat upward; white wing patch.

Larger than near-by Horned and Eared Grebes. Stout neck with a rusty-red wash in front; "blocky" head; pale throat and pale cheeks and face to back of head; dark back; dark forehead, crown and stripe down the hind neck; large, heavy bill."
