Hi all (especially Gull Lovers!) David and I went to Bodega Bay to look for the Yellow-billed Loon again (finally saw it today; did see it last year) and then birded around the whole area. On the far jetty at Doran Park, we saw an extremely white gull, smaller than the Western Gulls it was with. Scope views were quite decent, but pics taken through it with phone, not-so-good. I believe it was an Iceland "Kumlien's Gull." Please check out the eBird report: eBird Checklist - 11 Mar 2025 - Doran Regional Park - entrance pond to jetty - 2 species <https://ebird.org/checklist/S218001993>
Like I said in the report, from what I read, these birds aren't usual/common to see here on the west coast - where we usually have "Thayeri". I am terrible with gulls, and reading all about it in the Birds of the World, did not help, so if anyone has any words of wisdom to share about this bird, I'd appreciate it! We have a few more lousy, uncropped pictures if anyone cares to see more.
It was glorious out there today. Missed 100 species by 2 birds!
