All dabbling ducks do this all the time. I am here arlington, MA since the
past two years and I have been observing the different ducks (Mallards,
Canadian geese, black ducks Merganser, swans). Till now only dabbling
ducks do these, probably to eat insects and plants below. They do these
around the year. I walk all around Spy pond, Arlington Reservoir, fresh
pond, mystic lakes to river till Medford almost on regular basis.
