Although I had heard that woodcocks were at the Bio Reserve, I never got around to doing an evening walk there to find them until tonight. Think I had at least 5 including one very cooperative one that landed on the trail a few times quite close to me and was quite vocal. I had the pleasure of watching it flutter down to the trail and then also takeoff to do its aerial display even tho it was getting a bit dark despite some moonlight. At one point it appeared to be feeding by the trail.
Closer to sunset, I was able to watch one in ok light as it did its wonderful twittering aerial flight. Always a great way to celebrate early spring.
Some frogs were already vocalizing at the ponds as well.
