Date: 3/9/25 6:47 pm From: Russell Benedict <BenedictR...> Subject: [ia-bird] Fun Day in southern Iowa
Had several firsts of the season for me today, including four Turkey Vultures, several Northern Harriers, at least ten Rusty Blackbirds, and a singing Red-shouldered Hawk, all in Wayne County; at least ten Killdeer in various locations; and lots of Snow and Greater White-fronted Geese streaming over and singing Eastern Meadowlarks in Marion County. Day came to a close with three or four singing Great Horned Owls and the always entertaining "weent" of displaying Woodcocks between Pella and Knoxville, Marion County. And on the non-bird side - singing boreal chorus frogs in several locations. This is my 49th spring as a nature-lover, and it NEVER gets old. Russ from Pella/Knoxville.

This morning around 10:30 as I was leaving Hickory Hill Park, a loan adult Turkey Vulture flew over my head. This was about a week later than my FOY last year, but great to see anyway.
