Park closest to Brookside School (2962 Brookside Rd, Stockton), enter the east gate of the Brookside development (which is opened each morning for walkers) and continue walking west until you see two 2-story white houses on the right backed by conifers which you will see going onto the west. The Phainopepla was perched on the top of skinny tree with no leaves in the wetlands just opposite those houses. It is before you go through the second gate.
Note: Per Nan, you can only park closest to Brookside School on the weekend as there is too much traffic during the week. Weekdays you can park nearest the levee and walk up the levee path.
