Subject: Bald eagle hatching at Big Bear Lake (was: Bald Eagle in my yard)
Hi All,
I just checked out the YouTube video showing the third bald eagle chick trying to emerge from its egg (while the parent was feeding the two older bald eagle chicks) at Big Bear Lake, California. Weblink below.

Subject: Bald Eagle in my yard just

Okay, I had to scream!
I am just SE of Derby Kansas. Really, about1/2 mile east of new city boundaries on 87th South.
I have huge, floor to ceiling? Window panes. I’m facing west facing my old farm pond. Just north of the edge of my raised flower bed a giant dark shadow lifts off the ground and then heads south out of my view (I am in the recliner). There are bird feeders north and west of that spot—-and lots of birds. As the bird rose, we are facing each other. It is huge, has a glorious white head. It was an amazing sight. (Once, years ago, I had a Bald Eagle fly over. I thought that was a very big deal.)
I was on the phone with my son (recently burned out of his home in Altadena, Ca.) and he was scolding me about not yet viewing the live camera showing us the bald eagle nest at Big Bear Lake. Chicks were hatching.
Now tell me I am not crazy. But, I am literally yelling with more excitement about the bird in my garden. I have to promise him I will look at the footage of the hatching chicks…but I couldn’t convince him that the Bald Eagle in my yard was the best ever experience. Thrilling. Altered my heart-rate thrilling.
Well, I thought you might understand. He is not quite evolved. He did send me pics of the turkey vulture sitting on his driveway—twice, there must be a lot of carrion around those hillsides , close to the site of his personal urban “ wildfire”. So, he does notice birds and asks me to ID them.
Thanks,
Dennice Craig
