Subject: [ia-bird] Cone Marsh
Visited Cone Marsh this morning and was amazed at the number of birds.
There were a lot of Canada and Snow Geese but I estimated that we saw 30000
and my buddy thought 50000 White-fronted Geese flying over and some landing
in the marsh. At one time we looked at the western horizon and it looked
like a locust swarm. I have never seen so many White-fronted Geese at one
time. Also had cranes, a Northern Harrier, several species of ducks
including a couple of Buffleheads. It was a great morning.
Geese were still flying overhead when we left around 11:30AM.
