Fox Sparrow (Thick-billed) (Passerella iliaca [megarhyncha Group]) (3) CONFIRMED
- Reported Feb 27, 2025 08:14 by Kevin Zimmer
- West Cuesta Ridge, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.661226&<ll...>,-120.661226 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S215898950 - Media: 20 Photos
- Comments: "Much paler and grayer on the head and upper parts than “Sooty” Fox Sparrow, with contrasting rufous wings and tail, but with massive (both in width and depth), silvery bill, with straight-edged culmen and distinct tomial “tooth” and notch along the cutting-edge, lending a goofy, grinning countenance. Call notes were thin and sharp, with metallic quality like those of California Towhee, and very different from the husky, smacking notes of nearby “Sooty” Fox Sparrows. Photos to follow shortly."
