Subject: [sbcobirding] recap of the 16th Santa Cruz Island CBC
Late-breaking CBC update- We held the 16th annual Santa Cruz Island CBC on
January 2, 2025. We had 25 participants who covered more than 33 miles on
foot and by vehicle around the island's interior (the count circle does not
include Scorpion). We also scoured ~25 miles of ocean with so much thanks
to Captain Joel Barrett and Island Packers.

82 species were recorded with 4 additional species seen before or after.
Standouts were the apparently persisting/returning Eastern Phoebe, a Summer
Tanager, and a Hooded Oriole. This was also the first year for Marsh Wren.

I want to extend a huge thank you to the UC Natural Reserve Santa Cruz
Island Field Station, and to The Nature Conservancy. It would not be
possible to conduct this count without their support, including staff time,
vehicle use, and housing. So grateful!
