This morning I managed to catch the adult male Orchard Oriole and immature male Hooded Oriole that John Callender found and reported earlier this week. The Orchard Oriole was first in a blooming bottlebrush tree in front of 1418 Camellia Circle; then it flew into Carpinteria Memorial park and eventually into a group of young Coast Live Oaks in the southwest corner of the park. The Hooded Oriole was first in a small sycamore in the park then it joined the Orchard Oriole in the Oak trees before flying into the very large sycamore on the east side of the park. Both birds were seen and photographed by John and Lynn Scarlett this morning. Both birds also called a lot, making it somethat easier to locate them.
Note to birders: Arrive early if you want the best chance to see these birds. (I got there just after 7 a.m. this morning.) Pattern has been that they fly west out of the park toward Santa Monica Creek around 7:30 or so and don't come back.
