Subject: YELLOW GROSBEAK photographed in NWA
A potential first state record YELLOW GROSBEAK was photographed at a
feeder in NWA today (Feb 19). This bird isn't just mega rare for
Arkansas, but really for the whole United States, with very few records
ever outside of the Southwest US (they're typically found in Mexico). I
reached out to the observer, who got back to me and prefers not to share
a specific location and will not be inviting others to see the bird.
With all this snow, I doubt we could have chased it safely anyway!

We'll be sure to get the photos and details submitted to the Arkansas
Bird Records Committee for review. Yellow Grosbeak is a bird that is
sometimes kept in captivity, so the providence of really unusual records
like this is worth debating.

Either way, a fun thing to wake up to on a snowy morning!

Stay warm,
-Taylor Long
