Hi Dave,

Interesting find for sure! That Red-shouldered is definitely an
oiled/contaminated bird instead of if a melanistic one though, sadly (sadly
for more reasons than one).

shows a lot of features that look like oiling - feathers that start
'normal' at the base and then become darker along the length, where
melanistic feathers should be uniform and subsequently distinct borders
where the bird turns dark, plus the very stringy, greasy look to the
feathers. I've seen contaminated birds far too often as patients.
