On Sunday morning, amazingly the rare-on-the-coast Common Merganser reported several days ago by Joanne Sherif along Paradise Creek in National City continues. Not really the sort of place I expected it to stick around. This is the spot where a Swamp Sparrow wintered a number of years ago. It's the section of creek north of West 22nd Street. And you can walk along near the side of the creek on a path in a park that includes a small school environmental center. The main thing to be aware is that your view of the creek itself is blocked for assorted sections by the spartina and siliconia growth so the bird can hide if it chooses the wrong stretch.
In other news today, four Black Scoters, some continuing some new, one drake and three females, continue on South San Diego Bay as viewed with a good scope from the end of Grand Carib in Coronado Cays, looking way to the northeast toward where the car carrier ships dock in National City. The Pacific Golden Plover continues on stint Island at the end of 10th, and a Western Flycatcher continues in Spreckels Park in Coronado and the Clay-colored Sparrow continues on the edge of the Coronado golf course with its buddies, the four Chipping sparrows.
