I have worked for Helen and The Gull Island Project since about 1973. I continued thru the Covid Pandemic and beyond. Heading out again this coming April to clear nesting areas before the Terns arrive. Hundreds of volunteers came from CT, and her annual Spring work crews came predominantly from CT. Including regular visits from a boy scout troop( from Berlin ?) the Maritime Museum in New London supplied several work crews as did several local Audubon Chapters and bird clubs. Summer work crews were filled with collage students from UConn,SCSU, Connecticut Collage, Yale and Yale Forestry School, University of RI and more. Project oceanology regularly brought boatload of Teachers and students on visits and work parties.
Great Gull Islands Banded Terns have been recovered and sighted in Pacific,Atlantic oceans, down as far as Argentina, and in Europe! Helen has inspired thousands! She truly dedicated her life to the birds she studied and protected. I am forever thankful for the time we spent together living and working on 17 acres.
